Compressed air is lead through the inlet of
the dryer (J) and across the prefilter (18). At
this stage, the air is cleaned from particles
and condensate. The condensate is removed
via the condensate drain (20). Via a 4/2-way
plug valve (3), the air is lead into the adsorption
vessel (1), in which the air is dried down
to the required pressure dewpoint. Via a nonreturn
valve (9), the air is let into an afterfilter
(19), in which possibly released particles
from the desiccant are retained. Via the outlet
(O), the clean and dry air is is lead into
the compressed air network and to the point
of use. While one vessel is in the drying
phase (adsorption), the other vessel is being
dried again (regeneration). The content of the
vessel to be regenerated is first expanded via
an orifice (14) with small cross section area.
A valve (5) is opened and a partial stream of
dried air is expanded via valves (10, 11) and
led accross the desiccant bed for regeneration
and via the regeneration valve (5) to the
atmosphere. After that, the valve (5) is
closed and pressure-build-up is effected
simultaneously via valves (10, 11) and via the
orifices (15) and the 4/2-way plug valve (4). By
allowing the vessel slowly to de-pressurize
and the simultaneous repressurization of the
vessel, any mechanical stress on the desiccant
is reduced to an absolute minimum.
